Common Questions

What quality should I expect from these tails?

Full, whole tails with long fibers averaging 3–4+ inches. These are late-season Midwest whitetail with thicker hair, more hollow shafts, and better density than what you'll typically find in bulk lots. Every tail is a natural product so there will be some variation in size and color.

Why are these sold undyed and salted?

So you get a clean, unprocessed tail with no bleach or chemical treatments that could compromise dye uptake or hair integrity. Salt-cured with tailbone removed can be used as-is or dyed to whatever color you need. The white underside takes dye cleanly; the natural brown/gray top hair holds its tone through most dye baths.

How should I store these?

A cool, dry spot with some airflow is ideal. Paper bag or open box, not sealed plastic. A pinch of borax on the flesh side keeps bugs out. They'll last years stored this way with no loss in hair quality.
