About JRC Glove:

James Churchill sold his first deerskin work gloves out of Centralia, Washington in 1895. The men buying them worked with their hands. The gloves had to hold.

That standard has remained: JRC Glove still cuts and sews in Centralia, sorting every American whitetail hide by weight and color before a single cut is made. Stitching runs on lockstitch machines, which hold up when a thread breaks, not the chain-stitch machines that unravel from a single failure. Most gloves made today are chain-stitched, and shipped from overseas.

We proudly sell JRC deerskin gloves because of their commitment to quality and American craftsmanship.

Common Questions:

What does "medium weight" mean for a leather glove? Leather is measured in ounces per square foot. At 3 to 3½ oz, this glove sits in the practical middle: enough leather to protect against abrasion and daily wear, light enough to maintain the feel and dexterity deerskin is known for.

What is a wing thumb and why does it matter? The wing thumb angles diagonally across the palm with no seam running across it — this provides flexibility and is less likely to obstruct your work compared to a straight thumb. For all-day wear, the absence of a palm seam means one less pressure point and more natural hand movement.

Why deerskin over cowhide at this weight? At a medium weight, deerskin outperforms cowhide decisively. It's softer from day one, conforms to your hand's exact shape over time, and remains pliant when wet without stiffening. Cowhide at this weight still requires break-in and stiffens in wet conditions.

Is unlined the right choice? If you're working in mild to warm conditions where grip and feel matter more than warmth, yes. For cold weather, see our foam-lined or Thinsulate options.
