Wild whitetail deer leg tendons produce excellent sinew for bow backing, cordage, and other craft applications. Our mature whitetail are processed to produce tendon of useful working length for:
- Bow backing: split and pound into fiber, apply wet, dry under tension
- Bow strings & cordage: twisted sinew string, traditional and functional
- Arrow fletching & hafting: sinew becomes self-adhesive as it dries under tension, no glue required for arrowhead lashing
- Leather sewing: split into fine thread for traditional garment and moccasin work
- Drum making, lashing, wrapping: or other strong natural cordage applications
How to prepare your sinew: Use a smooth rounded rock or ball-peen hammer to pound the dried tendon until it turns white and begins to separate into fluffy strong fibers. Pull apart into fine bundles for use. To activate, briefly moisten in your mouth or with warm water. Sinew becomes pliable and adhesive, then dries rock hard.

Common Questions
Is this real sinew or artificial/imitation sinew? This is 100% genuine dried whitetail deer leg tendon, not waxed polyester imitation sinew thread. Real sinew is structurally different: it splits into natural protein fibers, becomes adhesive when moistened, and dries with tensile strength imitation sinew cannot replicate.
What's the difference between leg tendon and backstrap sinew? Leg tendons are dense and strong, ideal for bow backing, hafting, and structural cordage. Backstrap sinew produces flatter, finer strips better suited for beadwork and fine sewing thread. This listing is leg tendon only.
How long are the tendons? Approximately 9–14" per tendon. Length varies naturally by the size of the individual deer, but our Midwest whitetail bucks typically yield longer tendons than younger or farmed animals.
Are these safe for dogs? Yes, dried deer tendon is a natural, single-ingredient chew. It softens as your dog works it rather than splintering. Always supervise chewing and remove pieces worn small enough to swallow.
